Overview
Amid the endless rotation of day and night, the Laluna Cafe & Brunch mooncake box unfolds like a slow-motion film: layer by layer, a landscape rises into a tunnel of time, where the black cat (Laluna’s mascot) sits calmly at the heart of the story, observing the ever-changing world while remaining true to its own grace and character.
The Concept
The concept of “The Flow of Time - The Infinite Cycle” is transformed into a visual structure of depth and poetry. The front face features a circular window, like a telescope lens, revealing intricate layers of cut and sculpted paper - houses, clouds, and trees overlapping in a tender rhythm. The warm amber tones of dawn embrace the deep blues of night, meeting at the center where the moon glows - the luminous core of the design. The moon’s surface shimmers with an iridescent finish, changing hues with every tilt of the hand, evoking the passing of time over quiet rooftops. Surrounding it, a dark midnight-blue sky dusted with tiny silver dots suggests a gentle pulse, a stillness that breathes when held against the light.
The Design
The packaging was designed as an immersive storytelling experience inspired by Laluna’s café and its signature atmosphere. A minimalist illustration of the storefront wraps around the box, inviting recipients into “a Laluna night,” while the book-like opening reveals the mooncakes in a balanced, stage-like presentation. Through layered paper theater techniques, the visual narrative transitions from warm daylight scenes to a tranquil moonlit landscape, creating depth, contrast, and a sense of discovery. At the heart of the design is Laluna’s iconic black cat, a symbol of quiet confidence, memory, and belonging that reinforces the brand’s intimate and distinctive identity.
The Experience
When closed, the box appears as a deep-blue celestial meteor carrying the moon within. When opened, it unfolds into a storytelling stage that celebrates reunion and shared moments. Through the contrast of light and shadow, warm and cool tones, the design draws attention back to the moon, the emotional center of Mid-Autumn. More than packaging, it is an experience that reflects Laluna’s belief in simplicity, intimacy, and the beauty of slowing down.
